The recognition of foreign studies and degrees is the process leading to establishment of a Polish substitute of a foreign diploma. A higher education diploma, obtained outside of Poland, is subjected to a recognition procedure, when it cannot be acknowledged as equal to Polish diploma and degree, basing on an international agreement that establishes its equivalence. A recognition procedure of higher education diplomas obtained abroad takes place in accordance with the Regulation of the Minister of Higher Education and Science of September 28th, 2018 on the recognition of higher education diplomas obtained abroad and on validation of graduation at a certain level (Journal of Laws of 2018, item 1881). 

The Medical University of Silesia (SUM) proceeds the recognition procedure in the field of medical sciences and health sciences for the following scientific disciplines:

  • Pharmaceutical sciences
  • Medical sciences
  • Health sciences

At the University the following studies are conducted:

  • First degree studies (lasting 6 semesters) – given degrees: bachelor, bachelor of nursing, bachelor of midwifery;
  • Second degree studies (lasting 4 semesters) – given degrees: master, master of nursing, master of midwifery;
  • Unified master’s degree studies (lasting 10 – 12 semesters) – given degrees: Medical Doctor, dentist, master of pharmacy
The recognition of foreign studies and degrees at SUM conducts the committee of recognition of higher education diplomas obtained abroad of the Medical University of Silesia, which compares the course of studies, obtained learning outcomes, professional qualifications, completed curricular clerkships and periods of studies with synonymous parameters of the studies conducted at the Medical University of Silesia.
