By the Resolution No 88/2020 dated October 21st, 2010 and the Resolution No 12/2021 dated February 24th, 2021 of the Medical University of Silesia the following members of the Board were appointed for the term of January 1st 2021 to December 31st 2024:
![]() | Chairman of the BoardProfessor Marek Gzik PhD, Eng. Head of the Department of Biomechatronics of the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering of Silesian University of Technology. He graduated from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice. In 2015 he was awarded with a title of Professor of Engineering Sciences. He has been professionally connected with his Alma Mater. He used to act as a Vice-Dean for General Matters and Development at the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering. In 2011 he assumed a position of Dean at the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering and also as Rector’s Proxy for cooperation with industry. Since September 1st, 2020 he has been acting as Chairman of the Board of Biomedical Engineering of Silesian University of Technology. Since 2014 he has been the councilman of the Regional Assembly of Silesian Voivodship and in 2022 he became its chairman. He was awarded with Ist and IIIrd price in the competition „My idea for business”. In 2007 he was decorated with the Bronze Cross of Merit. He was also distinguished with, among others, prof. Jan Szmelter medal, Golden Badge of Merit „Distinguished for the Polish Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics” and Platinum Laurel of Skills and Competences "Science and Innovation". He was many times honoured with many awards from the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice for his scientific and organizational activities. |
![]() | Jolanta Czernicka-Siwecka President of the Management Board of Foundation „Iskierka” She is an educator, trainer, coach, social change animator. She has been acting as a President of the Management Board of Foundation „Iskierka” for children with cancer for 25 years. She earned her experience in the following facilities: The Gestalt Institute in Cracow, Universal Youth Academy Association in Warsaw, Business Trainer School - Workshop „TROP” and Centre of Civic Education. She is a member of the Association of Trainers of Non-Governmental Organisations (STOP). She works permanently with Workshop „TROP”. Nowadays she works as a tutor in Polish-American Freedom Foundation and she is licensed Ist degree coach of the Polish Psychologists' Association. In 2008 she was awarded by Newsweek Polska in the competition „Social activist of the year”. In 2012 she was awarded with the statue of „Successful woman of Silesia” and in 2014 she received a prize of Jan Wejchert Polish Council of Business in the category „Social Activity”. |
![]() | Janusz Szulik President of the Management Board of TU INTER Polska S.A., He is a graduate of AGH UST in Cracow - including the Underground Construction programme and Inter-faculty Department of International Trade. He graduated from post-graduate Management studies at University of Economics in Katowice and Akademie für Führungskräfte der Wirtschaft in Bad Harzburg. He also graduated from Management programme at Generali Akademie in Vienna. Since 1999 he has been associated with insurance sector. In August of 2011 he took the position of a President of the Management Board of TU INTER Polska S.A. and TU INTER-ŻYCIE Polska S.A. He is in charge of sales, trainings, marketing, public relations and internal auditing. He was honoured with a medal of Jan Mikulicz-Radecki Medical Association of Lower Silesia, with decoration: „Distinguished – Polish Medical Society” and with honorary decoration of Self-government of Nurses and Midwifes. He is originator and co-organiser of cyclical conferences organised by TU INTER POLSKA S.A. along with Medical University of Silesia and its Students’ Council. During that time he was also a side of the sponsoring agreements granting financial prizes for the best students of SUM graduating from the Faculties of SUM. |
![]() | Professor Zenon Czuba, MD PhD Head of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Faculty of Medical Sciences in Zabrze of Medical University of Silesia. Since 1982 he has been working as a researcher and lecturer at Medical University of Silesia. He has been participating in the education process of many SUM students graduating from the following programmes: medical, medical-dentistry, emergency medicine and dietetics. He has been teaching: medical microbiology, immunology and microbiology of food. He is a co-author of two course books for students. Since 1984 he has been supervising students conducting scientific research. From 1999 to 2014 he served as a supervisor of the Student's’ Scientific Association. As a Dean for Students at the Faculty of Medical Sciences in Zabrze (2012-2016), he was monitoring its teaching process. He introduced new techniques in scientific research, creating publications based on the research conducted. His publications have been highly recognised by international researchers. Results of scientific achievements of professor Zenon Czuba are high citation and the h-index impact. He has been successfully combining his scientific activity with organisational activity. He has been participating in the work of numerous scientific societies – as a member of the Management Board of Polish Chemical Society, Branch in Gliwice (since 1992), a member of the Management Board of Polish Society of Fundamental and Clinical Immunology, Branch in Katowice (since 1992) and a member of the Audit Committee of the above mentioned society (2009-2014). |
![]() | Professor Bogusław Okopień MD, PhD Head of the Department of Internal Medicine and Clinical Pharmacology at the Faculty of Medical Sciences in Katowice of Medical University of Silesia. Since 1985 he has been an employee of Medical University of Silesia. Since December 2005 he has been acting as a Head of the Department of Internal Medicine and Clinical Pharmacology and since March 2007 as has been a Head of the Department of Pharmacology. Between 2008 – 2012 he held a position of the Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences in Katowice. In the terms 2012-2016 and 2016-2020 he was a member of the Senate and a president of the Senate Committee for Students, Studies and Quality of Education. Since 2005 he has been a member of the Bioethical Committee and since 2017 its president. Between 1999-2003 he was a Provincial Consultant of Clinical Pharmacology for Opole Voivodeship and from 2007 a Provincial Consultant in the same area for Silesian Voivodeship. Between 2014-2019 he acted as a National Consultant in this area. In 2019 he was voted for the next term (2019-2024). In 2004 he was a member of the Committee for Therapeutics and Drug Sciences and between 2016-2020 he was a member of Committee for Physiological and Pharmacological Sciences. In 2020 he was yet again voted a member of the Committee for Therapeutics and Drug Sciences. In 2019 he became a President of the Polish Clinical Pharmacology and Therapy Committee. For his scientific activity he was honoured with the Minister of Health and Rector of SUM awards. He was also awarded with: a Silver Cross of Merit, a Medal of Commission of National Education, a Medal of Polish Society of Internal Medicine and a Badge of Merit „Distinguished for the Medical University of Silesia”. |
![]() | Professor Jan Duława MD, PhD Head of the Department of Internal Medicine at the Faculty of Health Sciences in Katowice of Medical University of Silesia. In 1978 he graduated from then Silesian Medical Academy (now Medical University of Silesia). By 2000 he worked in the Neurology Clinic in Katowice, where he went through all step of professional and scientific development under professor Franciszek Kokot. In 1998 he was given the title of professor with specialisations in internal medicine, nephrology, hypertension and angiology. He did his clerkships in the clinic of University of Heidelberg, Tenon Hospital in Paris and Freiburg im Breisgau. Since 2000 he has been the Head of the Department of Internal Medicine of Medical University of Silesia. Between 1996-2002 he acted as the Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences in Katowice. Between 2008-2016 he acted as a Vice-Rector for Science and between 20162020 he held a position of Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences in Katowice. Since 1991 he has been holding a position of a Provincial Consultant for Internal Medicine. He is an author or co-author of more than 200 published scientific articles and more than 50 chapters of course books, an editor, among others, of Vade mecum of Internal Medicine and a translator of „Internal Medicine” by Gerd Herold. His main interests include: renal failure (acute and chronic) obesity, hypertension, gerontology and issues related to medical ethics and philosophy of medicine. He acted as a President of the Silesian Department of Polish Society of Nephrology, a member of Management Board of Polish Society of Hypertension and Polish Society of Internal Medicine. He is a member of the Committee of Natural Sciences PAU. In May 2022 in accordance with the decision of the General Meeting of Delegates of Departments TIP, he was appointed the President of General Management Board of Polish Society of Internal Medicine for the term 2022-2026. |
