Information for people with disabilities

The Medical University of Silesia in Katowice is a University open to the problems and needs of people with disabilities. The University's primary task for the people with disabilities is to create conditions that enable them to fully participate in all dimensions of academic life and, above all, in the educational process.

The University's priority is activities focused on ongoing assistance to people with disabilities and chronically ill students; they will allow them to carry out the education process in the field of their choice. One of the main tasks is therefore to identify individual needs and problems as well as expectations of people with disabilities, so that they can fully benefit from the educational offer of our University.

How we help:

At the Medical University of Silesia in Katowice, students and doctoral students with disabilities are supported by:

Professor Ryszard Plinta, MD, PhD
Rector's Plenipotentiary for Disabled Students
of the Medical University of Silesia in Katowice

to whom you can turn for advice and assistance and information on specific support (adapted to the needs and type of disability) during the studies.

The Plenipotentiary can be contacted by e-mail:

rplinta@sum.edu.pl

Scholarships

Students with disabilities may apply for additional financial support in the form of a scholarship for people with disabilities. Students are entitled to it due to a disability confirmed by a decision of a competent authority. The scholarship is granted only for the period of validity of the decision (however, not longer than for one academic year). If the certificate of disability or degree of disability expires, an application for this benefit should be submitted again by submitting a new certificate.

Persons with disabilities may, on the same terms as all SUM students, apply for other forms of financial assistance, e.g. social scholarship, the Rector's scholarship for the best students, the minister's scholarship for outstanding achievements and dole.
