About

Faculty of Health Sciences in Katowice was founded pursuant to Resolution of the Senate of the Medical Academy of Silesia (current name: Medical University of Silesia in Katowice) of March 28, 2001 as the School of Health Care and Education. It was renamed to the School of Health Sciences in 2012 and to the School of Health Sciences in Katowice in 2014.

Professor Zbigniew Gąsior, MD, PhD was the first Dean of the Faculty in years 20012008 and in subsequent years the Dean’s authority was held by: Professor Violetta Skrzypulec-Plinta, MD, PhD (20082016), Professor Jan Duława, MD, PhD (20162020), and Professor  Agnieszka Drosdzol-Cop, MD, PhD (20202022).

Since 2022 Professor Anna Brzęk, PhD, PT is the Dean of the Faculty holding this position in cooperation with Vice-Deans: Professor Urszula Sioma-Markowska, PhD (Vice-Dean for Student Affairs), prof. dr hab. n. med. i n. o zdrowiu Anetta Lasek-Bal, and Professor Paweł Niemiec, PhD.

Faculty of Health Sciences in Katowice offers education in the following fields of study:
  • nursing
  • midwifery
  • physiotherapy
  • electroradiology
  • medical coaching

In addition to the above, the Faculty gives opportunity to expand professional competencies through a wide range of postgraduate study programs and other forms of education.

Postgraduate studies:
  • neurorehabilitation of  adults and elderly patients
  • gerontology and elderly care
  • corrective-compensation gymnastics
  • neurodevelopmental therapy
  • sexual education
  • physiotherapy in cosmetology

Modern and well-equipped teaching and research infrastructure of the Faculty of Health Sciences in Katowice make perfect grounds for performing student education on general academic and practical level in accordance with learning outcomes requirements, which has and influence on development of cooperation with economic environment at the same time. Didactic process in core subjects, including practical aspects of education, is performed at the University facilities and affiliated hospitals. Constantly modernized seminar and lab rooms located in Faculty buildings are basic didactic facilities. Other sites located in the area of the University campus in Katowice-Ligota are also worth emphasizing, like Education Centre of the Faculty of Health Sciences in Katowice, Education and Medical Simulation Centre as well as Sports Centre at the Department of Adapted Physical Activity and Sport.
