We are pleased to announce that the General Assembly of the Polish Physiological Society has awarded Prof. Joanna Lewin-Kowalik, M.D., Ph.D., the dignity of Honorary Member of the Polish Physiological Society and honored the Professor with the Napoleon Cybulski Medal in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the field of research and development of physiological sciences.
Prof. Joanna Lewin-Kowalik, MD, retired Head of the Department of Physiology at the Faculty of Medical Sciences in Katowice, previously Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences in Katowice and Pro-rector of the Silesian University in Katowice, physician, neurophysiologist, promoter of many doctoral and postdoctoral dissertations. Her work focuses on issues of neurodegeneration and induction of regeneration in the central nervous system, having pioneered research on neurodegeneration processes through the visual pathway. Prof. Lewin-Kowalik is undoubtedly one of the main personalities shaping Silesian and Polish physiology in recent years. Congratulations!
