As part of an ongoing competition, a SUM student has proposed creating a card game in the form of cards with questions and short thoughts aimed at the elderly - especially those suffering from dementia. The questions can be selected into different subject groups and numbered so that patients can draw questions for themselves or others. Questions can be general, but also individualized thanks to the patient's family and include graphics, photos, characters and places from the individual patient's past.
The idea addresses the problem of dementia in the older age group.
– There are not many games on the market aimed at improving memory, and if there are, we often see on the packaging that the game is in the age group from +2, +6, +12. I would like to change this and create a special game for the elderly, which would also be dedicated to people +40, – says Paulina Kucharska, a SUM student, and adds: – The game will allow people to share beautiful moments from their lives which will make the patient relive the moment once again. Thanks to the game, we will also be able to involve family and friends, who will be able to create their own slogans and further memories of the patient's life.
The idea behind the competition
The Queen Silvia Nursing Award competition is a gift that Swedish Care International prepared for Her Majesty Queen Silvia on her 70th birthday. Its purpose is to enable growth and creativity among nursing students who take on the care of the elderly and dementia patients in their careers. It also encourages dialogue and exchange of ideas about the level of medical care and geriatrics in Poland and opportunities for its development. The organizers also want to show that nursing education, especially in the field of elderly care, leads to work that can be attractive and rewarding.
The Polish edition of the Queen Silvia Nursing Award is held under the honorary patronage of the Supreme Council of Nurses and Midwives.
