A branch of the Silesian Medical University in Bielsko-Biała has been operating since the beginning of the new academic year. After a month of its operation, the university's authorities invited representatives of the city and the district administration, as well as local journalists and politicians, to it to show in what conditions dozens of future doctors are being educated.
– As you can see, the SUM branch is running at full steam. We conduct classes in accordance with the syllabus and ministerial guidelines. We have provided students with modernly equipped laboratories and lecture halls. Classes are also conducted on the basis of health care units located right in Bielsko-Biała, which undoubtedly also translates into the quality of education – said Prof. Jerzy Stojko, MD, Vice-Rector for studies and students.
– October was a very busy month for us. There was a lot going on here, because we wanted everything to function as it should. We also wanted our students to confirm that by choosing the SUM Branch in Bielsko-Biała, they made a good decision. I think this has been successful.Students are satisfied with the classes taught here. The winter semester is primarily histology and anatomy, two very important and key subjects. This is their first collision not only with the reality of the university, but also with the world of medicine, which certainly requires them not only to be self-disciplined, but also to reorganize the previous system of learning they learned in high school – said Prof. Dr. med. and n. o zdr. Jolanta Zalejska-Fiolka, Dean of the Branch in Bielsko-Biała
As part of the meeting, which took place on Wednesday, October 8, the invited guests first visited the prosectorium of the Beskid Oncology Center - City Hospital, where they had the opportunity to see a substitute for what SUM Branch students deal with on a daily basis. Prof. Grzegorz Bajor, Head of the SUM Department of Anatomy, presented what anatomy classes look like, while Przemysław Jędrusik, Head of the Department of the Center for Remote Learning and Educational Effects Analysis, showed the Virtual Reality stand, where in 3D space using VR goggles one can see what individual organs and anatomical preparations look like.
Another highlight of the program was a visit to the building on 1 Armored Division Street in Bielsko-Biała's Wapienica district, which is a branch of SUM.Those gathered here had the opportunity to get to know SUM students and the teaching and research base that has been prepared for them.
