The SUM Library Branch and the Museum of Medicine and Pharmacy in Sosnowiec, obtained funding for the project entitled 'SUM student - History of medicine and pharmacy in theory and practice from A to Z' from the 'Metropolitan Science Support Fund' programme.

The aim of the project is to disseminate knowledge in the field of the history of medicine and pharmacy, to familiarise young people with ancient and contemporary pharmaceuticals, therapeutic methods, diagnostic methods, herbalism and herbal medicine. The main purpose of the didactic content prepared in the project is to promote the study of medicine in the GMC, emphasising the role of the medical profession and its social responsibility as a profession of high public trust. Classes for high school students will be held in several thematic modules:

  • "Medicines from the old pharmacy".
  • "Action resuscitation"
  • "Not a bad herb, or a thing about naturotherapy".
  • "What a drop of blood hides"
  • "Deaf or dumb"

Given the opportunity to study at a University with traditions, the project will present the history of the duration of the medical professions chosen by the youth of the Metropolis, and future students will be introduced to the skills that doctors and pharmacists used to have in relation to modern research methods.

The project 'SUMienny student - History of medicine and pharmacy in theory and practice from A to Z' has been co-financed by the Upper Silesian and Zagłębie Metropolis as part of the 'Metropolitan Science Support Fund' programme from 2022 to 2024.
