A great success ! An international group of scientists and clinicians, led by Prof. Tomasz Darocha, MD, Head of the Department of Cardiac Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care, Faculty of Medical Sciences, Katowice, who acted as Senior Author, has just published an article and an instructional video in The New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), the world's most renowned medical journal (2022 Journal Impact Factor 176.082).  It describes the basics of bedside lung ultrasonography: "Basics of Point-of-Care Lung Ultrasonography".

The publication was produced with the dominant role of authors from the Silesian Medical University: Konrad Mendrala, MD, assistant professor in the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care, Faculty of Medical Sciences in Katowice (second author), Szymon Skoczynski, MD, prof. SUM, Head of the Department and Clinic of Lung Diseases and Tuberculosis in Zabrze, Faculty of Medical Sciences in Zabrze (third author), and Tomasz Darocha, MD.

The idea to create the film originated during joint work of SUM representatives at the Temporary Hospital in Pyrzowice during the covid-19 pandemic. At the production stage, in view of the changing epidemic situation, the film was modified and prepared in such a way as to help and educate healthcare professionals and effectively use transthoracic ultrasound in the diagnosis of the underlying causes of dyspnoea, irrespective of the epidemic situation. The success of our representatives will facilitate the practical use of transthoracic ultrasonography and confirms the important position of the Silesian Medical University in the international world of science and clinics.
