Students of the first edition of the postgraduate programme 'Master of Business Administration - MBA in Healthcare', conducted by the Medical University of Silesia in Katowice in cooperation with Lazarski University in Warsaw and the Medical University of Gdańsk, participated from 23 to 25 May in a study visit to the European Operations Centre of the Medtronic Company in Maastricht, the Netherlands.
On the first day of the visit, the logistical and organisational solutions as well as the management of the Medtronic Distribution Centre were presented.
On the second day, a full-day training course on an introduction to Lean Management concepts was organised. The training was led by Medtronic specialists Stijn Schretlen and Leon Martens.
The concepts and approaches of lean thinking, and improvement were discussed, and a simulation game was prepared for the participants, demonstrating the benefits of of the 5S method. The added value of participating in the training is the Lean Competency System Director-authorised LCS Level 1a Certificate.
Finally, on the last day of their stay, the participants visited the Medtronic Bakken Research Center BV and the Maastricht University Medical Center, where solutions for the application of the Lean concept were presented and a concluding lecture on the application of the Lean concept in medical entities was given by the Director of the Maastricht Heart + Vascular Center, Mr Prof. Michael Jabos.
