We would like to inform you that the competition within the framework of the 1st edition of the "Pearls of Science" program has been resolved.
The Minister of Education and Science has qualified for funding a project for a total amount of PLN 239,999.10.
PROJECT: "Synergism of the effect of amniotic stem cells and sorafenib on the activity of the Ras pathway in liver cancer".
CO-FINANCED FROM THE STATE BUDGET
UNDER THE PROGRAM "PEARLS OF SCIENCE"
GRANT VALUE: 239,999.10 PLN
TOTAL VALUE OF THE PROJECT: 239,999.10 PLN
The organizational unit carrying out the task is the Department of Cytophysiology of the Department of Histology and Embryology of the Faculty of Medical Sciences in Katowice.
The aim of the study is to determine in vitro the degree of synergistic effect of epithelial and mesenchymal cells obtained from human amniotic fluid and the drug sorafenib, on the proliferation and apoptosis of hepatocellular carcinoma cells regulated by the activity of the Ras/Raf/MEK/ERK pathway.
The novelty of the project lies in the combination of two cutting-edge approaches in oncology - stem cell treatment and molecularly targeted therapies (the kinase inhibitor sorafenib). The project represents the first preclinical study evaluating the effect of epithelial amniotic cells on hepatocellular carcinoma cells, and the first to use sorafenib and amniotic cells simultaneously. The results of the study will have potential clinical relevance due to the heralded possibility of using amniotic stem cells in the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma in combination with other forms of therapy.
