On 8 October 2024, President Andrzej Duda handed out nomination acts for academic teachers and employees of science and arts. Among them was Prof Sebastian Grosicki, MD, Dean of the Faculty of Public Health in Bytom.
Prof. Sebastian Grosicki graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the Silesian Medical Academy (now: the Silesian Medical University-SUM) in Katowice in 1996. Between 1996 and 2008 he worked as an assistant in the Department of Haematology and Bone Marrow Transplantation of the Silesian Medical Academy in Katowice. From 2009 to 2024 he headed the Haematology Ward (now the Clinical Ward for Haematology and Cancer Prevention) at the SPZOZ Municipal Hospital Complex in Chorzow. Professor serves as Dean of the Faculty of Public Health at the Bytom SUM. He is a member of the Polish Adult Leukaemia Treatment Group (PALG), the Polish Society of Haematologists and Transfusiologists (PTHiT), the Polish Society of Internal Medicine (TIP), the Polish Medical Association (PTL) and the American Society of Haematology (ASH).
He is a specialist in internal medicine and haematology. To date, he has co-authored more than 150 full-text papers (IF > 1500, Hirsch Index about 40) and about 350 scientific reports presented at national and international conferences. He has published his research results in top international medical journals such as Lancet, New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of Clinical Oncology, Leukemia, Blood and many others. His main scientific interests include optimisation of therapeutic management and prognostic factors in acute myeloid leukaemia, plasmocytic myeloma and chronic lymphocytic leukaemia. In addition, he deals with the influence of environmental factors on cancer pathogenesis.
