Prof. Wylęgała at the University of Cambridge

From 17 to 23 September 2023, SUM's Vice-Chancellor for Development and Technology Transfer, the eminent ophthalmologist Prof Edward Wylęgała received training at the prestigious University of Cambridge. The main aim of the training was to improve university management skills as part of the EU's ,'Leaders in University Management' programme. The study tour, coordinated by the Ministries of Education and Science, took place thanks to the EU's POWER programme Action 4.3 transnational cooperation.

- This is a unique opportunity to gain knowledge, exchange experiences and get inspiration from experts from a
renowned university such as the University of Cambridge. The programme included a series of
lectures delivered by experienced lecturers from the University of Cambridge.

During these sessions, specific thematic aspects were discussed and
lively discussions were held. The visit included tours of
modern laboratories, institutes, libraries, creativity centres and other places
related to scientific research. - One day was spent in the Maxwell Centre,
the most modern part of the new UC campus, which provided an opportunity to see the
infrastructure to support the development of science and teaching. It was also an opportunity to make
contacts with Cambridge scientists, which may lead to further exchange of
experience and research projects - adds Prof Wylęgała.

An important aspect of the training was to address topics related to the consolidation of the university, the improvement of teaching processes, research and cooperation with the socio-economic environment. The training highlighted the importance of
internationalisation of universities, improving teaching processes, investing in the
development of infrastructure. - Commercialisation of research results is a complex
long process requiring the cooperation of many university departments. The following were also presented
