Professor Ewa Mrukwa-Kominek has been appointed by the Board of Directors of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) and the European Board of Ophthalmology (EBO) as an examiner for the European Specialty Exam in Cataract and Refractive Surgery (EBO-ESCRS Subspecialty Exam -FEBOS-CR).

ESCRS and EBO developed this exam to certify specialized and advanced knowledge in cataract and refractive surgery. Successful candidates are awarded the title of FEBOS-CR (Member of the European Ophthalmic Council Subspecialist in Cataract and Refractive Surgery), which distinguishes them as potential leaders in the field with superior knowledge.

The exam is held once a year immediately before the annual ESCRS Congress, this year held on 07.09. 2023. The prestigious exam is designed for cataract and refractive surgeons who want to obtain the FEBOS-CR title, have surgical experience, have performed a minimum of 1,000 cataract surgeries, have cataloged procedures, pass a test consisting of 50 multiple-choice questions (MCQs), correctly analyze clinical cases, literature and presented difficult cataract surgeries. This year, 16 people from all over Europe were allowed to take the exam, and nine of them were awarded the title.

Prof. Ewa Mrukwa-Kominek is the only person from Poland who holds the FEBOS-CR title (obtained in 2019) and is currently a member of the FEBOS-CR Board, a group of people who prepare and supervise the exam.
