The Inauguration of the Academic Year 2024/2025 of the University of the Third Age at the Faculty of Health Sciences in Katowice took place yesterday. The University's activities focus on promoting a healthy lifestyle for seniors by organizing inspiring workshop and lecture meetings.
The event was attended by the university's authorities: Prof. Katarzyna Mizia-Stec, MD, PhD, Vice-Rector for Science, and Oskar Kowalski, MD, PhD, Professor of Medicine at ŚUM, Vice-Rector for Postgraduate Education and University Promotion. Also present were the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences in Katowice, Anna Brzęk, MD, Prof. ŚUM, the coordinator of the UTW project, Agnieszka Młynarska, PhD, and the Deputy Mayor of the City of Katowice, Maciej Biskupski.
During the inauguration, Prof. Katarzyna Mizia-Stec emphasized the importance of the Third Age University initiative, saying: - This also proves your strength, health, energy and commitment. We show the University from the inside for people with such interests. One can always learn, and we learn all our lives.
In a similar vein Professor Agnieszka Młynarska, MD, noted: - The desire to learn and develop the spirit has no time limit, learning is the source of eternal youth. At the University of the Third Age, we not only broaden our horizons, but also remain young in spirit.
As part of the inauguration, Professor Jadwiga Jośko-Ochojska, MD, gave a lecture entitled “The role of good emotions in health and comfort in life”, in which she discussed the impact of stress on health, ways to cope with chronic stress and the importance of good emotions, especially in the context of the elderly. She also noted the importance of muse therapy as one method of coping with stress. - The more positive emotions a person has, the healthier he or she is and the longer he or she lives, Prof. Jośko-Ochojska concluded.
The ceremony culminated with a musical performance that put the participants in a positive mood, heralding a new year full of learning, development and shared experiences.
