The Silesian Medical University has completed the first edition of the program “Be a leader in medicine,” which aimed to prepare future leaders to effectively manage teams and make decisions in the medical environment. The program, carried out in cooperation with the Iskierka Foundation and the School of Leaders, enabled participants to gain competencies that will facilitate their key roles in medicine.
Within the framework of the program “Be a leader in medicine,” which lasted several intensive months, participants had the opportunity to develop key skills necessary for leadership positions in health care. The main idea of the project was not only to impart theoretical knowledge, but also to create space for practical improvement of competencies such as team management, interpersonal communication, conflict resolution and decision-making in crisis situations.
The program was carried out jointly with the Spark Foundation and the School of Leaders, and attracted people interested in developing leadership skills who are close to the idea of sustainable and empathetic management in the medical sector.
Workshops led by experienced professionals included methods for building trust in a team and managing human resources in medicine. Some classes were also devoted to developing soft skills, such as assertiveness, empathy and effective communication with patients and colleagues.
The last congress of the program summed up the activities so far and brought the participants together for a graduation ceremony for 15 of them. Also present at the meeting was Prof. Jerzy Stojko, MD, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at ŚUM.
The meeting closed with the reflections of the tutors, who appreciated the commitment of the participants and pointed out their further development opportunities. Graduates of the program leave with solid knowledge and a set of tools that they will be able to use to successfully act as leaders in various areas of medicine, ensuring high standards of healthcare and effective management of medical personnel.
