The project 'Personalised Hydration Optimisation System THE IQ & WATER' is being carried out by a tripartite consortium formed by the leader, Tymbark-MWS spółka z o.o., and two scientific entities, the Medical University of Silesia in Katowice and the J. Kukuczka Academy of Physical Education in Katowice.

The aim of the project within the competition of the National Centre for Research and Development - NUTRITECH, nutrition in the light of the challenges of improving the well-being of society and climate change, is to develop the concept of a personalised selection system and recipe for a line of rehydration drinks to be used during, and after, physical exercise.

The system consists of:

- 3 types of hypotonic drinks whose composition and formulation reduce the risk of water-electrolyte disorders and dehydration,

- unique packaging that protects against radiation, which has a negative impact on the shelf life and functional properties of the drinks,

- an integrated application that suggests the volume, frequency and type of fluid intake.

The recipe of the rehydration drink for use during as well as after physical activity was developed, produced and delivered by a research team from the AWF under the direction of Dr Jakub Chycki, Professor of the AWF.

At SUM, a phase of industrial research is currently underway on a unique and globally modern UV, HEV and IR protective packaging, which is being developed based on advanced measurement techniques using, among others: a hyperspectral camera, a thermal imaging camera, a directional reflectometer and an emissometer.

The key research team on behalf of SUM consists of Dr Sławomir Wilczyński, Prof. SUM, Dr Anna Stolecka-Warzecha and Dr Agata Lebiedowska and Dr Małgorzata Bożek from the Department of Basic Biomedical Sciences.

The project is co-financed by the National Centre for Research and Development, project value: PLN 8,454,684.23.
