The 119th annual meeting of the Japanese Society of Psychiatry and Neurology is underway in Yokohama. This is one of the most important annual events held in this part of the world on the issue of diseases related to the central nervous system. Dr. Joanna Smolarczyk and Dr. Gniewko Więckiewicz from the Department of Psychiatry of the Faculty of Medical Sciences in Zabrze SUM are participating in the meeting.

The visit to Japan is related to an award that SUM scientists received a few months ago. We're talking about the Fellowship Award - an extremely prestigious award given annually to twelve outstanding young psychiatrists who can boast significant scientific and organizational achievements. So far, this unique scholarship has been awarded to only four Poles. Moreover, this is the first time in history that two Poles from the same clinic and in the same year have received the award. In awarding this honor, the Japanese Society of Psychiatry and Neurology takes into account, among other things, the candidates' past scientific achievements and their non-scientific and organizational activities.

Receiving the award also entails a trip to Japan and participation in the annual meeting. As part of the ongoing 119th congress of the Japanese Society of Psychiatry and Neurology, Dr. Gniewko Więckiewicz gave a lecture on the stigmatization of psychiatric patients in EDs in Poland and the solutions to this problem that are available in Polish legislation. Dr. Joanna Smolarczyk, for her part, prepared a lecture on the treatment of anxiety disorders in Poland.

We sincerely congratulate our researchers and wish them further success!
