The topics of the first nationwide Conference entitled. "Promotion proceedings in the light of past experience. Practice of first and second instance authorities - where are the problems?"
organized yesterday in Katowice by the Council for Scientific Excellence and the Medical University of Silesia, attracted great interest, gathering several hundred people in the W. Zahorski Hall, as well as in online form, watching the broadcast of its proceedings.
- It is worth noting that this is the first nationwide conference of its kind, and seeing so many of you, we once again see the need to continue the discussion of promotion proceedings and exchange of experiences," said Prof. Katarzyna Mizia - Stec, SUM Vice-Chancellor for Science and International Cooperation.
Opening the conference, Prof. Tomasz Szczepanski, Rector of the Silesian Medical University in Katowice, emphasized the fact that it is held in the year of the 75th anniversary of the founding of our University. - The search for excellence is the goal of scientific activity, so that science is at the highest possible level," assessed Prof. Szczepanski.
Chairman of the Council for Scientific Excellence, Prof. Grzegorz Wegrzyn brought information on the proceedings for the conferral of the title of professor, postdoctoral and doctoral degree, giving the audience a number of valuable, practical comments.

The conference was addressed primarily to entities conducting proceedings for the awarding of doctoral and postdoctoral degrees, as well as to entities that have been authorized to conduct the above proceedings for the first time as a result of the evaluation of scientific activity.
During the conference were discussed, among other things:
- good practices in the proceedings for the awarding of doctoral and postdoctoral degrees and the title of professor.
- the desirable model of promotion proceedings with the preservation of administrative jurisdiction
- the most common causes of appeals in promotion proceedings and grounds for overturning decisions of bodies awarding degrees
