On Friday, October 20, 2023, the graduation ceremony of medical students of the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the Silesian Medical University in Katowice was held at the International Congress Center in Katowice.This important event for all graduates was attended by both representatives of the Rector's and Dean's authorities, as well as their families and relatives.
The ceremony began with a performance by the university's Choir, which spectacularly performed the piece Gaude Mater Polonia. All graduates and invited guests were welcomed by the Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, Prof. Jerzy Stojko. Also speaking were the Vice-Rector for Science and International Cooperation, Prof. Dr. habil. n. med. Katarzyna Mizia-Stec, and the Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences in Katowice, Prof. Dr. habil. n. med. and n. o zdr. Tomasz Francuz.
The event was also attended by Pro-Deans Prof. Dr. Aneta Gawlik-Starzyk, Prof. Dr. Grzegorz Helbig and Dr. Maciej Kazmierski, M.D., who led the medical pledge ceremony. Congratulations were also extended to all graduates by the Vice President of the Regional Medical Council, Dariusz Skaba, MD, PhD. The Mayor of Katowice, Marcin Krupa, also honored the graduates with his presence.
Speaking on behalf of the graduates was the head of the 2017-2023 medical faculty year, Dr.Helena Perenc.The lecture entitled "Medicine in Art", prepared especially for the occasion of the graduation ceremony and the reception of diplomas, was delivered by Professor Michał Holecki, MD.
Congratulatory letters of graduation were received by 397 graduates. The Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences in Katowice presented awards to the distinguished graduates.There was also a handover of awards on behalf of the President of the Academic Sports Association, the President of IFMSA Poland Branch Silesia and the Student Government.The President of the Management Board of Towarzystwo Ubezpieczeń Inter Polska S.A. and a Representative of the Faculty Council of the Student Government also spoke.
The graduation ceremony was concluded with the Choir's performance of the piece Gaudeamus Igitur.
