On June 6, a meeting of the university's authorities was held at the Bielsko-Biała University of Technology and Humanities with the Rector of the Silesian Medical University in Katowice, Prof. Tomasz Szczepanski, MD, PhD, who was accompanied by the Vice-Rector for Science and International Cooperation, Prof. Katarzyna Mizia-Stec, MD, PhD, and N. o zdr. Jolanta Zalejska-Fiolka (dean of the future branch) and Chancellor of SUM Dr. n. med. Ireneusz Ryszkiel. The talks were devoted to ATH's cooperation in the organization and operation of SUM's medical faculty in Bielsko-Biala.
Already in March of this year, the universities signed a letter of intent, declaring mutual activities in both the scientific and research areas, as well as in teaching. The cooperation is to include, among other things, sharing laboratories, using specialized equipment or creating common spaces and facilities for students, conducive to the implementation of the educational process at the highest possible level.
- I am extremely pleased and edified by the willingness to cooperate, which will benefit the region, our universities and, above all, young people who want to study medicine in this unique, rapidly developing region and have reacted extremely positively to the possibility of establishing a branch of our University right here. SUM presents an attractive offer, and we are pleased that the Technical and Humanities Academy, so deserving of the development of education, has responded extremely kindly to our proposals. I have no doubt that this will be a great time for everyone involved in the development of the educational offer in the south of our province," said Prof. Szczepanski, rector of SUM.
- ATH will support the activities leading to the establishment of medical studies in Bielsko-Biała, as this is a very important undertaking for our city and region. We are two state universities and we should support each other, of course with mutual respect for the interests of the partner," assured the Rector of the Bielsko-Biala Academy Dr. Jacek Nowakowski, Prof. ATH.
The SUM rector thanked the ATH rector for his kindness and for creating a good climate for the establishment of a medical faculty at the SUM branch in Bielsko-Biała. The prospects for cooperation between the universities are very promising, and it will undoubtedly bring tangible benefits to both universities and the Bielsko-Biala region.
