A SUM birthday card unveiling ceremony was held today at the Rector's Office of the Silesian Medical University in Katowice. On March 20, exactly 75 years ago, the then authorities decided to establish a medical university in our region, now the largest medical university in the country.
The card features a photo of our cradle, Rokitnica, as well as photos of three prominent SUM rectors: Prof. Zbigniew Herman, Prof. Zbigniew Religa and Prof. Franciszek Kokot, who, interestingly enough, was a first-year student in the first year of our university's existence. All of them are outstanding scientists with tremendous achievements, which was emphasized by Klaudiusz Hercig, director of the Network Region of the Polish Postal Service S.A., reading a letter from Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Polish Postal Service SA. Wieslaw Wlodek.
- I am extremely pleased that we can celebrate our birthday with such an important and symbolic event. The rectors immortalized on the historic postcard are role models for future generations of students," said SUM Rector, Prof. Tomasz Szczepanski.
